The College of Optoelectronic Engineering is an integral part of the university's Electronic Information discipline group, which ranks among the top in Sichuan Province's colleges and universities. The group provides vital intellectual and human resources support for the development of the country's and region's electronic information industry. The College is rooted in Sichuan, looking to the whole country, and cultivates applied senior engineering and technical talents with firm beliefs, excellent moral character, solid foundation, and strong innovative and practical abilities for local economic construction and social development.
The College currently has over 1,200 undergraduate students and offers four undergraduate programs: Electronic Science and Technology, Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, Applied Physics, and Meteorological Technology and Engineering. Among these, Electronic Science and Technology is a national first-class undergraduate major construction site, a national characteristic major, and a Ministry of Education Excellence Plan major, having passed international engineering education professional certification; Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering is a provincial first-class undergraduate major and a provincial Excellence Plan major, having passed international engineering education professional certification; Applied Physics is a provincial first-class undergraduate major construction site; and the Meteorological Technology and Engineering program was first enrolled in 2023.
The College has two master's degree authorization points: "Electronic Science and Technology" (academic) and "Optoelectronic Engineering" (professional). The training directions cover optoelectronics (optoelectronic system design, optical communication technology, liquid crystal display, lidar, weather modification, etc.), microelectronics (electronic components, microwave device design, microelectronic devices, integrated circuit design, etc.), intelligent perception and image processing (image recognition, machine vision, deep learning, etc.), advanced sensors and microsystems (biomedical sensors, electronic intelligent sensors, meteorological sensors, etc.), new materials and new energy (new optoelectronic/microelectronic materials, lithium-ion batteries, organic solar cells, etc.).
The College has 96 faculty and staff members, including 80 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, 37 hold associate professorship or above, accounting for 46% (13 professors and 24 associate professors); 74 hold master's degrees or above, accounting for 93% (62 doctors and 12 masters). The College has one foreign academician, one national "Thousand Talents Program" recipient, one "New Century Outstanding Talent" of the Ministry of Education, two outstanding experts with outstanding contributions in Sichuan Province, and five reserve candidates for academic and technical leaders in Sichuan Province.
The College has two provincial and ministerial platforms: the "Artificial Weather Modification Joint Research Center" of the China Meteorological Administration and Chengdu University of Information Engineering, and the Sichuan Provincial Engineering Research Center for Meteorological Optoelectronic Sensor Technology and Application; two provincial key laboratories of colleges and universities: the Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory of "Information Materials and Device Application" and the Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory of "Optoelectronic Sensor Devices and Systems"; and two Chengdu joint laboratories: the "Flat Panel Detection and Display Technology" laboratory and the "Optoelectronic Materials and Integrated Devices" laboratory. In addition, the College has established joint engineering research centers with industry leaders such as China Energy Conservation Group, BOE Technology Group, Chengdu Tianma Microelectronics, and SOCHIP Semiconductor to promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. In the past five years, the College has presided over and participated in more than 100 national and municipal scientific research projects, 200 enterprise development projects, published more than 400 SCI papers in domestic and international journals, obtained more than 100 authorized patents, and achieved more than 10 achievements transformation, with steady growth in scientific research strength.
The undergraduates and postgraduates of the College, except for those who continue to study further, mainly work in enterprises, institutions, research institutes, aviation departments, meteorological departments, and other institutions, engaged in technology development and management related to integrated circuits, communication technology, optoelectronic information, intelligent manufacturing, new materials and new energy, meteorological detection, etc. The College graduates are highly sought after by employers for their solid and rigorous scientific research and innovation capabilities and industrial adaptability, and most have become backbone talents in their respective fields.
